Jo Yeates 'Sightings'

Detectives were yesterday investigating reports two “agitated” men emerged from woods close to where Jo’s body was found at 6.20am.
A commuter spotted the soaking wet pair coming out of woodland by Longwood Lane in pitch darkness.
Avon and Somerset police last night refused to comment on the sighting.

TWO AGITATED MEN

"A local woman told officers at the scene that she had seen a man run across a road and into woods a few hundred yards from where the body was found.

The woman, who gave her name as Patricia, from the nearby village of Clapton in Gordano, said she was driving with her two daughters at about 5.45pm on Christmas Eve when they saw the man run across the road from trees on one side of the road and jump a stile.

"It was dark and it was very odd. It's not the sort of road you see people cross.

"It was as if he was taking a chance to cross the road," she said.

"I wish I had reported it to the police at the time."

Sightings of 4x4 vehicle...

The force has appealed for sightings of a 4x4 seen near to where her body was found in Failand, near Bristol.

A rifle range at the nearby Clifton College was also looked at as the investigation into the death of the 25-year-old landscape architect who lived with boyfriend Greg Reardon, 27, continued.

And it emerged a groundsman may have heard the killer dumping Miss Yeates' body in one of the nights after her disappearance.

The man heard a car pull over and the boot open - but as he approached the 4x4 the driver got back into the vehicle and drove off. Detectives are now urgently trying to trace the car.

COMMENT: Seems bad reporting here.....or confusion..will check

The groundsman did not specify the type of car, as he didn't actually see it.

The 4x4 was seen turning into the golf club entrance and then swinging out again, perhaps because it had a security entry. Two separate incidents.

Here it is. NO mention of a 4x4, but look how misleading they have made it.
The man, who is based at one of the sports clubs bordering Longwood Lane in Failand, where Miss Yeates’s body was dumped, heard a car pull up on the secluded road on one of the nights after she disappeared.
Concerned that someone might lost or struggling in the icy conditions he approached the vehicle which he was unable to see clearly because of a large hedgerow.
The man told police he heard the driver get out of the car and open the boot or hatchback.
But as he moved closer to offer assistance, the driver suddenly closed the boot, got back into the car and drove away.
The groundsman told a friend he thought nothing of the incident at the time, but later realised its possible significance when he heard Miss Yeates’s body had been discovered close to the spot on Christmas Day.
He passed on the information to Avon and Somerset Police who earlier this week issued an urgent appeal for the driver of a light coloured 4x4 vehicle to come forward. Detective Chief Inspector Phil Jones said: "This 4x4 may be completely unconnected but I urge anyone in that car or any other driver in the vicinity that night to come forward.”
The man told a friend: “I was working late at the sports club because of the weather when I heard a car pull up and stop. It was very icy that night and I thought perhaps they were struggling with the conditions.
“I couldn’t see the car because there was a large hedge in the way but I went over to see if I could help.
“I heard the driver door close as if someone had got out and then heard what sounded like the boot or hatchback being opened.
“At the time I thought they must have broken down. But as I walked towards the gate to see if I could help I heard the boot and door close again and the car drove away.

In the Sunday Times they add "Neighbours have also reported seeing two strange men near the flat on the morning of her disapearance" the men were of Eastern European appearance and one was very short. The taller one was rather toothy and wearing a brown jacket* and trainers.
