The off-roader raised the suspicions of a couple taking a morning walk on Saturday, December 18 – the day after the 25-year-old disappeared.

It was not until the following Monday that officers issued a missing person alert after Miss Yeates’s boyfriend Greg Reardon returned from a weekend away to find she had gone.
She was found strangled on the verge of Longwood Lane near Failand, north Somerset, a week later, on Christmas morning.

Police last week appealed for information after a light-coloured 4x4 was sighted in the lane around the time Miss Yeates went missing.
But Avon and Somerset police have refused to confirm if they were linking the two sightings.
‘We take every piece of information we receive from the public seriously and this is one of many lines of inquiry we’ve pursued,’ said police spokesman Martin Dunscombe.
Miss Yeates vanished from her flat in Clifton, Bristol, without her purse, keys, phone and coat, on the evening of Friday, December 17, after drinks with colleagues.
