Jo Yeates: another 'expert' gives his opinion 'The Sun'...reading the article Prof. Wilson has nothing new to report..but importantly it keeps Jo's case in the public domain , also mentioning of Ms.Carruthers may bring some comfort to her family knowing she is not forgotten and hopes of finding her killer are very much alive.

ON Monday it will be a month since Jo Yeates went missing. So what have we learnt in that time?

I have visited the site where Jo's body was dumped, walked the roads around her flat and listened to the evidence that has emerged.

And I think we can say with some certainty that Jo was killed in her flat and the body was intended to be dumped at the quarry in Longwood Lane, rather than the grass verge where she was left.

EnlargeMystery ... the key events in Jo's disappearance and murder
Jo's killer was either too weak to lift her body over the wall separating the lane from the quarry or too anxious he - or she - was going to be spotted.

This suggests we are talking about a killer rather than killers.

Jo's remains were frozen in the cold weather and that has frustrated attempts to establish exactly when she was murdered. We do know she was strangled - and that there was no evidence of sexual assault.

We also know she was not wearing a coat, her shoes and that one of her socks was missing - a sock that may have been used to strangle her, or simply taken as a "trophy" by her killer.

Happy couple ... Jo with boyfriend Greg Reardon

The absence of her overcoat and shoes suggests Jo got home, took them off and, in all likelihood, put her newly bought pizza in the oven.

Did her killer turn the oven off before they left?

Why - if they were a stranger - would they have done that?

Why not simply leave the flat and allow the pizza to burn? Perhaps they even ate the pizza.

And why did they remove the body from the flat, with the potential that that would create for them to be unmasked?

This suggests Jo's killer was either inside her flat when she got home, or knocked on the door soon afterwards and killed her at that point.

For every 100 murders there will be 100 different motivations, so it is usually best to consider access and opportunity before worrying too much about motivation.

Who had access to the victim and who had the opportunity to use that access to perpetrate the kill?

Murders by strangers are very rare here and everything so far points to the fact Jo knew her killer.

Claims ... landlord Chris Jefferies

So what else do we know?

We know there was a murder of a young women called Glenis Carruthers in January 1974 in the same area of Clifton and that, like Jo, she was strangled and that there was no evidence of sexual assault.

There was a cold case review of this murder recently and police hoped DNA profiling advances might help catch Glenis's killer. Perhaps the two murders are connected.
What do the police do know?

There is going to be a reconstruction of Jo's last known movements which may throw up new leads, and police will also continue to see what forensic evidence they can gather.

This is a complex case - but I have no doubt Avon and Somerset Police will catch Jo's killer
