Jo Yeates: Image of Jo in 2002 in badminton gear

Search teams began sifting through 40 drains yesterday near the basement flat where landscape architect Jo lived. They hope to find the grey ski sock that was missing from her body.

Detectives believe it may have been used to strangle her - and are investigating the possibility that the killer may have taken it as a trophy.

Police extended their search to the rifle range belonging to Clifton College - where Mr Jefferies once taught English literature. The range is next door to Jo's home.

Avon & Somerset Police also said their detectives had been alerted to the disappearance of another young woman three days after Jo vanished.

Helen Van Duivenbode, 28, went missing from her home at Okeford Fitzpaine, near Blandford Forum, Dorset, on Monday, December 20.

The village lies around 50 miles from Bristol. Helen was last seen by her parents Bernard and Alexandra, who raised the alarm when they failed to contact her over Christmas. Dorset cops said there was "great concern" for her.

Jo's body was found in Failand, three miles from the flat she shared with boyfriend Greg Reardon, 27. She was last seen alive by workmates as she left the pub just after 8pm on the 17th.

Keith Pavey, her boss at architects BDP, described her as "a talented and committed professional".

A tribute was also paid by Neil Hopkins, Jo's former principal at Peter Symonds College, in Winchester, Hants.

They spoke as a new picture was released, showing a smiling Jo aged 17 with her badminton teammates and coach in 2002.

Police insisted that Clifton remained safe for women despite the killer being still at large.
Chief Superintendent Jon Stratford said: "There is at present no specific intelligence or information to suggest an increased threat to people's safety."

Comment :  This tells me so much, the police may or may not have someone in mind but it is my belief all signs point to Jo having known her killer and the police are in between the lines explaining this to the public. The attack not  reported as 'frenzied' nor of a sexual nature , a crime of passion then ?  an act of domestic violence ?....but only time will tell. No 'Warning' of' women beware there is a killer loose on the streets', the police it seems do not believe the 'killer' will strike again.
