DISTRAUGHT relatives of a woman who disappeared after a night out with friends in Bristol have made a heartfelt plea for her safe return.

Architect Joanna Yeates, 25, who lives in Clifton, went missing after going out for drinks with work colleagues in Park Street on Friday night. Her family and boyfriend say her disappearance is completely out of character.

Miss Yeates' distraught father David, mother Theresa, brother Chris and boyfriend Gregory Reardon yesterday publicly appealed for her to contact them.

Holding back tears, her father said: "Whatever the reason that you have not been in touch over the last few days, we want you to know that we love you dearly and are desperate to know you are safe and well.

"Please get in touch as soon as possible – either to the police or anyone who can confirm that you are OK. Our appeal extends to anyone that has knowledge of Jo's whereabouts or can help this investigation.

"Jo is a vibrant young woman and this is completely out of character for her.

"We need your help to find her."

Detective Superintendent Mark Saunders, of Avon and Somerset police, said officers were desperately trying to shed light on Miss Yeates' disappearance.

He said they had been making house-to-house inquiries, speaking to witnesses, examining CCTV footage and retracing Miss Yeates' last known steps in a bid to unearth clues to her whereabouts.

Police say Miss Yeates, who lives in a flat in Canynge Road with her boyfriend, was with friends at the Ram pub in Park Street at about 8pm and later made a purchase at Tesco Express in Regent Street, Clifton, at 8.40pm before returning home. Officers say she might have made her way back home on a bicycle or on foot.

She was reported missing on Sunday after Mr Reardon returned home from a weekend with his family in Sheffield.

The receipt from Tesco was found inside the flat, along with Miss Yeates' personal belongings.

Police are unsure what she was wearing on the night of her disappearance but say that earlier on Friday she was wearing dark grey fitted jeans and a light-coloured top.

DS Saunders said: "She has never done anything like this before.

"She didn't turn up for work on Monday and didn't have any particular plans for the weekend.

"We haven't turned anything up to indicate she might have been upset. We don't know where she is at the moment."

Miss Yeates is white, 5ft 4in tall, of medium build, dress size 8-10, with short cropped blonde hair and grey/blue eyes.
