West Molesesy baby death...

West Molesey baby death cruelty mother spared jail

A 19-year-old mother who admitted child cruelty following the death of her eight-month-old daughter in Surrey has received a suspended prison sentence.

Shannan Woods was arrested after paramedics were called to her home in West Molesey on 18 December 2009.

A post-mortem examination revealed the baby's cause of death was immersion.

At Guildford Crown Court, Woods was given a 12-month prison sentence suspended for two years, and a 12-month supervision order.

Last October, she denied a charge of causing or allowing the death of a child, which will lie on file.
