Private CCTV footage given to Joanna Yeates' murder police team
The footage was taken from Harley Lodge, the home of world-renowned maths professor Sir John Kingman, whose house sits on the corner of Clifton Down and Canynge Road, the street where Miss Yeates, 25, shared a flat with her boyfriend Greg Reardon, 27.
Professor Kingman has two private CCTV cameras on his end-of-terrace property, with one set up on the side of the building that faces out towards the top end of the road where Jo lived.
The other camera points across the common towards Bristol's Clifton Village and would cover the entrance to her road.
Sir John, 71, a former Bristol University vice-chancellor would not comment in depth on the matter when the Evening Post visited his home yesterday.
He said: "I have cooperated with the police, you can ask them about the matter. I do not want to say anything more."
The footage is said to be being examined by detectives leading the case, named Operation Braid, and it is hoped the images could provide a new breakthrough.
It is believed the cameras cover the route Miss Yeates, a landscape architect, took home after enjoying an evening with work colleagues at the Bristol Ram pub in Park Street on December 17.
The CCTV could provide information about the time she arrived and reveal whether she was being followed back to her flat.
In a national newspaper published yesterday, Sir John was reported to have said: "I have given everything I have, all the tapes I had, over to police from my CCTV. I can't comment on what was on them.
"I didn't look at them. I gave them to police and it's up to them what they do with it."
A police spokesman would not comment on the matter but national newspaper reports quoted a spokesman saying: "We are unable to comment on this CCTV footage and there are no plans for its release".
On the night Miss Yeates disappeared she was captured on CCTV in several places on her way home.
She was first seen at 8.10pm at Waitrose in Clifton Triangle and 30 minutes later, at 8.40pm, she was seen in Tesco in Clifton Village buying a Tesco Finest tomato, mozzarella and basil pesto pizza. The pizza is still said to be missing from her flat.
Miss Yeates was reported missing on December 19 and her body was discovered by a couple walking their dog three miles from her home in Longwood Lane, Failand, on Christmas Day.
She had been strangled to death.
Police have not confirmed whether Miss Yeates was killed in her flat or elsewhere.
